HEART OF DARTS Don Vickers has once again raised a fantastic amount of money for the “Heart of Darts”. At the recent Essex super league presentation night, Don presented the Chairman, Ian Waller, with a cheque for £2,359.39. This was the money raised for running the London marathon earlier this year and Don wanted to thank all who’d sponsored him so soon after running the Dublin marathon. Especially the Chelmsford Royal Mail Sorting Office, his Family and Essex players and venues. Don has now raised over £6,000 for the Heart of Darts. Congratulations to the Victoria at Writtle who held a 24-hour marathon in June and raised in the region of £5,000, this included a £1,100 winning bid for Bobby George’s signed dart shirt, a new world record for an item of dart memorabilia. Continuing the theme, Dave Powell is holding a Charity Darts Night at the T.A. Centre, Circular Road East, Colchester. You may have the chance to play against World number one, Colin Lloyd, plus other professionals during the evening, also a chance to win some very unique prizes. All proceeds to go to replacing Toby’s wheelchair and to the Heart of Darts.

Paul Everson took the prize for the highest finish (138). Landlord Lee White who lost in the semi to Solly was over the moon with the response. AROUND THE LEAGUE’S: Harlow & District Premier: Servopoint have been toppled for the first time since 1997, after finishing level with them last year, White Admiral beat off Servopoint to win Harlow & District Premier Darts League by six points after a neck and neck tussle throughout the season. Servopoint vowed to regroup for next season. Fourteen Year old Eli Leftwich (GPCA Servopoint) was triumphant winning the singles plate competition by beating Paul Devereux (Moot House Drifters) 4-3 in the final. Eli came from 3-1 down in the semi final to win 4-3 against Peter Mays (Parndon Wanderers). Eli is already part of the Essex County youth squad. After winning the Singles two years ago, being very much the underdog, Barry Rowlett has become affectionately known as the peoples champion. This year with more than a little help from his partner Steve Jefferies they triumphed in the pairs beating the father and son partnership Ron and Damian Green 4-2 in the final. No mean feat considering Ron and Damian are regularly members of the very successful Hertfordshire County Darts ‘A’ team and were winners of the competition in 1999. On a nostalgic note, this year’s singles champion Mick McNally was presented with his trophy by Pat Honey the very first winner of the title in 1977. Mick one of the best players in the area now has his name on the trophy in 2001, 2002 & 2005. No mean feat with an entry of over 100 players each year. Mick’s wife Jackie won the ladies knockout for the second year in succession. Brentwood Borough & District: Steve Johnson (White Hart) added the Courage Cup to his winter league singles titles when beating Phil Daldry (Cherry Tree A) 3-0 in the final last month. The Railway Hotel beat the Bentley 3-1 to win the Sixes knockout; in division 2, the Rising Sun beat the Harold Wood NC ‘A’ in the final; and Cherry Tree ‘B’ beat the Chough in the division 3 final. Andrew Westcott & Alan Crown (Bentley) won the Captain’s and Secretaries Cup winning the final against Peter Wiffen and Ron Bruce (Brave Nelson). Ingatestone & District: Terri Warwick (Oddfellows Arms) achieved a 150 finish in a recent league game to top the league’s finishing table. With only a single league win to date, the Railway Hotel won the Six Aside knockout beating the Rising Sun Dragons 2-0 in the division 1 final, repeating their Tuesday night feat. Division 2 leaders won the division 2 Six Aside knockout with a 2-0 victory over the Oddfellows Arms. The Rose & Crown had a 2-1 win over Chelmsford Social Club in the division 3 final; and division 4 table toppers, the Rising Sun Bee’s, won the final 2-0 against the Crown B. In the 5th annual Bullseye knockout, Steve Atkins beat Mark Banham at the Bentley to qualify for the semis; Scott Hance (Fox & Hounds) beat team mate Matt Doe at the Rising Sun; a 150 score helped Andrew Kateley to qualify from the Royal British Legion, beating Craig Vickers 3-2; the last semi-final place is taken by Paul Williams (Charlie’s Mob) who beat Trevor Grimsey (New Barn) 3-2 at the Victoria. Any team wishing to join the Ingatestone & District league should attend the Annual General meeting on Monday 8th August at the Royal British Legion, Chelmsford.
