DARTS AROUND ESSEX – JULY 2005
SOLLY TAMES THE LION! Dave Solly produced a superb performance to take the Wickford Spring Open title, winning 4-0 against Lionel Sams with a 30.36 average that included a maximum. Solly beat Michael Barnard 3-1 in the semi; Sams took out Brian Whybrow 3-2. The losing quarter-finalists were Kevin Turner, Rick Buck, Mark McGrath and Sussex’s Scott Richardson. Solly also won the prize money for both the most 180’s and the highest checkout (164). In the Blind Draw Pairs that followed, Solly rounded off the perfect day when he and his partner, Damien Fyffe won the final 3-0 against Dave Harris and Steve Maish. Losing Semi-finalists were Matt Caste & Les Goddard and Kevin Turner & Dan Day.
Little N LARGE Monthly Knockout result: Steve Maish (28.24 average) beat Dave Orton (25.34 average) 5-3 to win the first monthly competition. In the semis, Maish beat Paul Everson 4-0 and Orton beat Larry Oxborrow 4-2.
SUPER-LEAGUE
Men’s Section: Harwich emerged from the
field to win the Knockout Cup beating Canvey in the final. Basildon and
Ingatestone lost in the semi-finals. Thameside added the 1-6-12-league
title to the main title, Colchester was runners-up. Barry Adlam topped
the Average, Most Wins and Most Tons tables. Steve Johnson topped the
Most 180’s and the Player of the Season tables. Kevin Edwards
(Colchester) beat John McFall (Canvey) to win the Champion of Champions
title, Phil Brewster (Hatfield Peverel) and Eddie Gosling (Colchester)
lost in the semis. John Mortimer (Cressing) over come strong play from
George Lord (Harwich) to win the Official Cup, David Bocking
(Chelmsford) and Marcus Smith (Harwich) the losing semi-finalists.
Ladies Section: Clacton took the title in the final fixture of the
season, with Braintree finishing runners-up. Lynn Kelly (Braintree) beat
Wendy Johnson (Witham) to win the Champion of Champions title; the
Officials Cup was won by Sue Waterman (Kelvedon) who beat Cos Derby
(Hatfield Peverel). Sue Waterman was Player of the year and the
recipient of the Presidents Cup. Viv Dundon (Clacton) topped the Tons
table. Youth Section: Ongar won both the league title and the
Knockout Cup with Clacton finishing runners-up. Vincent Clarke (Ongar)
won the Singles and Champion of Champions titles against Ray Ambrose
(Canvey) and Jamie Finch (Ongar) respectively. Bob Lang (Ongar) was
player of the year; Kristi Bosdet (Canvey) was the Female player of the
year. Congratulations to our Essex Male teams, the Under-18’s and Under-21’s won their respective sections, after beating Sussex 13-4 in the final fixture in the ‘B’ Section of the British Inter Counties Youth league. Christopher Ball (19.27 average) won the man of the match award in the U18’s 7-2 victory; Amy Turner (14.74 average) was lady of the match in the girl’s 2-1 win; in the U21’s, Craig Vickers (22.07
