PERFECT 9! Congratulations to Paul Holloway (Braintree) who hit a perfect nine dart leg against Graham Ince in the semi-final of his Greene King house knockout at the Rose & Crown pub in Braintree, the first of his career. Good luck in the next stage and to all the other Essex players who qualified. Great
Wakering Open With 60 men and 3 lady players registering, the round robin was played in 9 groups of 7 players. The format being best of 3 legs 501 one point per leg won. Young Brandon Walsh (aged 12) from Lancashire, accumulated 13 points, including three wins, but unfortunately did not quality for the knockout stage. The board winners were Kevin Beech, Paul Everson, John Hayter, Steve Maish, Adrian Genery, Steve Grimsey, Simon Whalley, Darren Richardson and Rick Buck. Also qualifying were the following highest point scorers: John McFall, Dave Orton, Jim Eagleton, Peter Tomlinson and Kevin Smith. Another two players had play-offs to contest too qualify: Paul Holloway beat Barry Kerby 3-0 and Ray Hayden beat Bob Adams 3-1. There
were some great games and it was Steve Maish who won through to the
final, disposing of John McFall, Kevin Beech and Paul Holloway in the
semi on route. His opponent was Adrian Genery who’d beaten Darren
Richardson, Paul Everson and Jim Eagleton. Maish took the £200 first
prize with a clinical 5-0 victory, Genery taking home £100 for his days
work. A raffle was held and raised £64.00 for the local beach hut fund. Chelmsford
Easter KO With 56 players registering, it didn’t take long for the eight boards to produce the quarter-finalists. The losing quarter-finalists were David Bocking, Brian Barnard, Ben Adams and Terry Rose. The Semi-finals were on stage this year and produced a couple of cracking games.
In
the Money-in Money-out pairs, Adrian Genery & Paul Holloway teamed
up and beat John Jennings & Jason Walsh 3-0 in the final. The losing
semi-finalists were James Noone & Dougie Wallace and Brian &
Michael Barnard. SUPER-LEAGUE Men’s Section: The title looks destined to return to Thameside, although mathematically Colchester and Basildon could catch them. Recent great games have come from: Phil Brewster (Hatfield Peverel), who beat Mark Banham (Ingatestone) 3-0 with winning legs of 15, 19 & 14 for an average of 31.31; Steve Johnson (Thameside), who beat Darrell Claydon (Canvey) 3-0 with winning legs of 17, 16 & 15 for an average of 31.31; Jamie Robinson (Witham), who beat Ian Turner (Saffron Walden) 3-1 with winning legs of 23, 13 & 11 for an average of 30.21. Eddie Gosling (Colchester), beat Alan Church (Chelmsford) 3-0 with winning legs of 18, 17 & 15 for an average of 30.06; Dave Orton (Basildon), who beat James Connal (Witham) 3-0 with winning legs of 14, 18 & 15 for an average of 31.98; Carl Smith (Basildon), who beat Barry Balcombe (Witham) 3-0 with winning legs of 19, 17 & 14 for an average of 30.06; Chris Bowring (Hatfield Peverel), who beat Peter Chittock (Chelmsford) 3-0 with winning legs of 21, 17 & 12 for an average of 30.06. Adrian Genery (Harwich) beat James Noone (Colchester) to win the Rose Bowl, Barry Adlam (Thameside) and Dave Solly (Basildon) the losing semi-finalists. Barry Adlam tops the Most Wins table with Phil Brewster (Hatfield Peverel) both having 17 wins. Adlam also tops the Averages and Tons tables, Alan Collins (Thameside) the 180’s table and Steve Johnson (Thameside) the Player of the year table. Ladies

Ingatestone
& District: The
Ex-Chequers won their first winter championship title after coming back
from 4-3 down against the Red Beret; the Rising Sun Dragons finished in
second spot. Promoted from division two are the Black Bull (Chelmsford)
and the Royal Oak ‘A’, and promoted from division three are the
Ship, Chelmsford R.B.L. and Spread Eagle. The Prince of Wales are the
recipients of the Wooden Spoon. Southend
& District Ladies Amateur:
The Pool Shack are the league winners winning 20, drawing 5 and only
losing the one game, this is a new record and the girl’s are very
proud of this record. Finishing runners-up are the Eagle Club 7-points
adrift. The Pool Shack also topped the “Vic Cook” table a single
point ahead of the Castle. Pam Brooks (Shack) has a 100% win record to
date. Gill & Dave Rice won the “Mr & Mrs Cup”. A great

Borough & District:
The Cherry Tree ‘A’ won the division won title from the White Hart.
Division 2 winner is Prince of Wales ‘A’ with the Rising Sun
finishing runners-up. Saxon King ‘B’ finished two points in front of
Henderson ‘B’ to win the division 3 title. Players of the years were
Steve Johnson (Division 1), John Wastenage (Division 2) and Sean Sargent
(Division 3). Steve Johnson shares the Most 180’s with Bobby Semple,
both scoring seven, Steve’s 170 is the highest checkout. Harlow
Industrial & Business:
The Easter Blind Pairs was a great final that went the distance, with
Peter Brown (Gate) and Dick Foster (Council) beating Mick McNally (Moot)
and Kevin Rees (Dusty) 3-2. Wickford
& District: The
York Bees won the division one title 11-points ahead of Rayleigh Lanes.
Division two champs are the Mayflowers with the Railway Woodman
runners-up, and also promoted are Invacar. The Railway Woodham won the
“Peter Hayday Shield” beating Invacar 3-2 in the final.
