DARTS
AROUND ESSEX – SEPTEMBER 2005 REPORT
CHARITY SUCCESS
The format of the evening was that the Colchester Super League side took on the pro players in a super league format. The pairings were made up with members of the audience bidding to play with their favourite player and it ended up that the parents were bidding on behalf of their children. As all the pairs were made up of young up and coming players from the local area. While the match was being played there were other challenge matches going on as members of the public paid to play games against the pro players. There was an auction of donated shirts, darts, dartboards and other memorabilia. The highest bids on the night were £140 for a day’s golf with Rod Harrington, Colin Lloyd and Russ Bray; the same amount was bid for the matchboard, which the players and callers had signed. The next highest bid of £120 was for the dartboard that Colin Lloyd won his semi-final on in the World Match Play at Blackpool. The raffle was very well supported and at the end of the night a total of £3,097 had been raised. This is not the final figure as there is other pledges still to arrive. Organiser, Dave Powell, thanks the 180 or so people that attended and made the evening a great success. I must add my congratulations to Colin Lloyd for his brilliant World Matchplay win against John Part, and wish him luck in his defence of the World Grand Prix next month.

Ladies: Seven teams will play this season, in a much-changed league with only champions Clacton unchanged. Southend are a new team, Kelvedon are now Colchester and have a number of players splitting off to form a new Witham side. Former Witham are now Chelmsford playing out of Chelmsford Social Club; Hatfield Peverel are now Wickford playing at the Little ‘n’ Large Club; and finally Braintree are changing venues to Bocking United Services Club. AROUND THE LEAGUE’S: Basildon Monday: The group stages of the Summer cup finished with Vange 'B' winning group One without losing a game, averaging 8-1; Little 'n' Large finished second. Group 2 winners were Bowers 'B', again winning all their group games, with Chalvedon colts as the runners up. In the semi-finals, Vange 'B' defeated Chalvedon colts by 5-1 and Bowers 'B' overcame the Little 'n' Large by 5-3. The final was a very close fought affair, with Vange 'B' holding on to the trophy they won twelve months ago, beating Bowers 'B' 5-3. At the recent A.G.M., Ian Crawford, sadly had to resign as league secretary due to work commitments. Ian has been associated with the league since the mid 70's and has been on the 'top table' for the last 15 years. We wish him well for the future. John Brown has been elected as the new League secretary. Two new teams have also joined the league, Vange 'A' and Ghyllgrove, while three teams have changed venues and also their names. Albion becomes the Little 'n' Large, Castlemayne become Woodlands and York 'E' becomes E-Riding, playing out of the Long Riding pub.
