DARTS AROUND ESSEX – APRIL
Barry Adlam (Essex) won through a tough field to retain the Essex Open title. Another successful tournament at the Ford Sports & Social Club, Rush Green, was fully supported with 350 entries all chasing the £1,900 prize money and Grand Prix points.
Of the sixteen group winners, it was Adrian Genery (Essex) and Steve Alker (Mont & Radnor) winning through to the first semi-final after beating Steve Hine (Warwickshire) and John McFall (Essex) respectively in the quarters’. Genery (29.11) and Alker (29.66) produced a fantastic show that went the full distance; Alker scored a maximum and checked out 121 in the 5th leg, Genery scored two maximums.
Adlam beat Martin Kingsley (Cambridgeshire) in the quarters to set-up the second semi against Cambridgeshire’s Peter Priesland who’d beaten Michael Ray (Lincolnshire). Adlam (25.36) won through to his second final with a 4-1 victory over Priesland (23.90). Adlam took the first leg in the final, but Genery showed no nerves to pull level. Adlam took the 3rd leg and once again Genery made it all square. Genery (24.42) then took the 5th leg against the darts and then had darts to win the title, however Adlam (27.12) kept cool to level and then take the last leg to retain the title.
The
eight players that lost in the last 16 were all from Essex; Malcolm Clark,
Steven Smith, Gary Phipps, Alan Collins, Daren Sandford, Kevin Edwards,
Dave Orton and Shaun Walsh. Dave Salisbury, the club steward and sponsor,
was on hand to present Adlam with the Trophy and Cheque for £800. Three
