This, the last game of the season for Servo Hawks, would determine the outcome of the 2008 League Championship race. Since Christmas three teams were in contention for the championship, Servo Hawks, White Admiral (defending Champions) and The Young Pretender (2008 Team Champions).

This season all the teams in the league influenced the outcome of the 2008 League Championship by taking points from the top three Championship contenders. This was never going to be a ‘One Horse Race’.

Recent weeks saw Servo being pushed to get results knowing that the Young Pretenders had a game in hand, their last game being against the Moot House Arrows. Would this be a walk in the park?

Earlier in the season Moot House Arrows stopped Servos winning streak with a 4-4 draw, and repeated the same result against The White Admiral. So this team is not unfamiliar with a pressure game, and remembering that two of their players lead the 180’s table. Servo knew they had to put the Pedal to the Metal to be sure of a result.

The first game of the night Servo pressed ahead with James Jennings hitting 100 and 140 with Dickie Foster finishing on 13. However Moot House Arrows were on 100.

Going into the second game the scoring was high with 100’s scored by Damian Green, Eli Leftwich, Jeff Etherington, and John Crowley. The game was neck and neck, Servo needing 144, Moot House requiring 60.

Ronnie Green stepped up to leave 40 after hitting the wire with his last two darts. The young Eli Leftwich was next to throw, calmly hitting two 60’s only then to hit the wire for double 12! Next up was John Crowley hitting double 20 with his first dart.

Servo Hawks 1  Moot House Arrows 1.

Servo stepped up a gear in the fours with Tommy ‘The Ton’ Jennings hitting 121, young Eli hitting 140, and Steve ‘The Stealth’ Devereux scoring 70. These scores were matched by Moot House Arrows with replies from ‘Bionic’ Ronnie Greens scores of  100 and 70,  with son Damian ‘The Devil’ Green scores of 81 & 100 together with 100 from John ‘Smiler’ Crowley. But, Servos old guard, Dickie Foster and Jeff Etherington, finishing on 57 and 59.

Servo Hawks 3 Moot House Arrows 1

With Servo requiring just 3 more point to clinch the title and Moot House Arrows refusing to make it easy, Servo Hawks had to rise to the occasion and put even more pressure on.

Servos first pair James Jennings and Eli Leftwich hitting 5 tons, two 80+s between them, with James going out on 109 to clinch the score 4-1.  The second game between the teams saw even more high scores from Tommy ‘The Ton’ Jennings hitting 140, 95, 123, 96, and 81. His partner, Roy ‘The Reaper’ Leftwich scoring consistently 81, 85, 85, 124, and another 85.  Facing them was ‘Bionic’ Ronnie Green scores of 81, 85, 100, and 100. His Partner Frankie ‘Fingers’ McGinlay hitting 81 and just missing a 100. But Frankie ‘Fingers’ McGinlay made up with a cool 40 shot out with one dart to bring the score 1 all in the 2nd pair. Servo won the third game when Tommy ‘The Ton’ Jennings finished on 95.

Servo Hawks 5 Moot House Arrows 1

Moot House Arrows still refusing to make it easy for Servo Hawks, the next game could decide the Championship.

Damian ‘The Devil’ Green scores of 100, 100, 100, 125, 80 and 97 with a shot out of 111 demonstrated their determination to push pressure back on Servo Hawks during this game bringing the score in this pair 1-1. Servos Billy Nelmes replies of 81, 95, and 100 in the third game leaving his partner Jeff Etherington 86.

Jeff decided to go 54 32, his first dart hit 18, deciding then to still aim for 54 to leave 14, he hit another 18, leaving the bull. After a short pause Jeff threw his last dart and hit the Bull to clinch the Championship for Servo Hawks.

Servo Hawks 6 Moot House Arrows 1

The last game of the nigh continued, with Dickie Foster, Steve Devereux, Mickie Wells and Eilish Lauder scoring 121. Final result of the evening.

Servo Hawks 7 Moot House Arrows 1

Congratulations to Servo for winning the League Championship. I am sure that Servo would agree that this game between Moot House Arrows was of a high standard, and with a lot of fun too.
