Colchester Riley's 4th Open Results:

Barnard braves the weather to secure 4th Rileys Open... The Colchester Riley’s 4th Darts Open went ahead despite the severe weather conditions on Sunday 19th December. A total of 30 entrants took part and this was less than the usual entry size but all the same a quality field including PDC Stars, Michael Barnard (Ranked 57), Lionel Sams (Ranked 94) and winner of the 3rd Open, Jamie Robinson.  A few early rounds clashes saw a tremendous battle between Essex’s Kevin Edwards and Michael Barnard with the PDC player edging the clash 3-2. Colchester and Essex’s Jamie Robinson held his nerve to edge out Paul Brown (Colchester Riley’s) 3-2 in a high scoring encounter. Robinson then faced Essex team mate Alan Collins in the first Semi Final which he won 4-2 finishing with the match with a 10 and 11 dart legs including the days highest shot out of 164, Robinson averaging 81.36 and Collins 70.01. In the second Semi Final Michael Barnard took on Colchester's Dave Bokenham winning 4-2 in which he averaged 83.07 to Bokenham's 74.43.  The final as expected was a high class affair with Barnard facing Robinson who is a former PDC player himself and in front of an expectant crowd they did not disappoint. Each player broke each others throw in the first two legs and the score was 2-2 when in the fifth Barnard hit two 180’s to go ahead and he never looked back after taking the match 5-2 with and impressive 91.23 average to Robinson’s 81.27 and the a consolation £150 first prize for having just missed out on qualifying for the PDC World Championships. Six maximums were hit in the final, Barnard hit 4 and Robinson 2.  The Ladies Final was an all Essex and Braintree Super league final with Carol Pinfold defeating Lucy Ward-Geddes to take the first prize. The random pairs saw some close encounters but Stuart Mortimer (Cressing) and Kevin Edwards (Essex and Harwich) emerged comfortable winners over Robinson and Steve Western (Colchester Town). It was a great day and despite the weather successful and Tuesday 28th December sees Rileys Inaugural Fours Open Competition.

Finally received Chelmsford's result sheet, only 12 days late, no post date, but a 2nd class stamp which is an automatic Fine!

Colchester Riley's 3rd Open Results:

The Third Colchester Riley’s Darts Open took place on Sunday 17th October a total of 50 entrants were received for the Singles and 38 for the pairs. The field was the strongest seen at a Riley’s with a lot of county players in attendance. In the Semi Finals Jamie Robinson (Colchester) beat Martin Compton (Riverside) 4-2 to reach the final after Martin had squared the match at 2-2. In the second Semi final Tony Course (Saffron Walden) comfortably defeated Dave Bokenham (Colchester) 4-0, who had some great matches during the day.  In a high quality final Jamie Robinson (Colchester  (77.74) defeated Tony Course (80.04) 5-4 to pick up the £200 first prize and give him a timely boost ahead of his appearance in the Winmau World Masters later this month. The Final was a great contest with Course scoring maximums at will and he hit two in the third leg alone. His power scoring gave Course three darts to take the title 5-3 in the eight leg but missing with all three darts allowed Robinson to step in. Course never looked the same player in the last leg and Robinson snatched the win.
The Women’s singles saw yet another Braintree Super League final as Imogen Baxter played Lucy Ward-Geddes with Ward-Geddes, who also has qualified for the Winmau World masters as well, winning 4-2 after being 2-1. Both Ladies were making their Second appearance in a Colchester Riley’s Final. In the Random Pairs Stuart Mortimer (Cressing) teamed up with Adrian Genery (Harwich) to emerge victorious over Tim Franklin (Cressing) and Mark Henry (Colchester Rileys). Highest shot outs on the day were Dave Bokenham (Colchester) 130 and in the Ladies Lynn Kelly (Braintree) 108.

Colchester Riley's 2nd Open Results:

A total of 46 entrants were received for the Second Rileys open and the field was stacked with quality. A lot of the early rounds were very tight encounters with finishing being the key. In the Semi Finals Richard Howson (Goodmayes) (77.82) beat Matt Waddoups (Southend) (77.22) 4-2 to reach the final after Matt had hit a 14 and 18 darter to take a 2-0 lead. In the second Semi final Martin Compton (Riverside) (60.63) beat Paul Copeland (Colchester) (60.75) 4-2 in a gritty encounter with both players missing doubles.  Richard Howson (Goodmayes) (78.87) beat Martin Compton (69.72) 5-3 in the Final to pick up the £200 first prize and follow up his Colchester open win from two weeks ago. The Final was a good contest and was not to disappoint with Martin Compton taking a 2-1 lead but Richard Howson soon got into gear and some heavy scoring enabled him to take the title 5-3 including a 13 dart leg to break Martins throw. Richard’s recent rich vein of form has seen him called up for the first Essex County match of the season.    The Women’s singles saw to Essex County team mates clash with Lynn Kelly beating Lucy Ward-Geddes 4-3 in a close match where Lynn’s finishing was the deciding factor.    In the Random Pairs Paul Barham (Southend) and Louise Barton emerged victorious with a 2-1 victory over Andy Burmby (Springfield) and Tony Larkin (Colchester Rileys) who both missed match darts during the defeat. Highest shot outs on the day were Ben Attridge (Walton) 142 and in the Ladies Lucy Ward-Geddes (Braintree) 111.

Unfortunately, DUNMOW have had to withdraw from the 2010/2011 Men's Super League due to not being able to attract enough Players to register a team.
