Colchester
Riley's First Open Results:
On Sunday 1st
August the first Colchester Riley’s Darts Open took
place. In the Men’s event Suffolk’s Andrew Gilding
won the £250 first prize beating Essex’s Paul Barham
5-0 with an impressive 87.39 average. Gilding took
control of the match with three 180’s in three legs
coupled with some great finishing. Local player,
Richie Norfolk, won the Highest shot out finishing
on 160 in his quarter final defeat. In some great
early matches there was some great finishing with an
impressive Bull, Bull double sixteen 132 shot out
from Colchester’s Paul Copeland. In the Ladies event
Essex County player Karen Breen defeated
Colchester’s Imogen Baxter 4-1 in a close encounter
with Breen’s finishing the difference. There was a
great result for Essex and Colchester in the random
pairs as Alan Currivan (Walton) and Paul Brown
(Colchester Riley’s) came through a strong field to
defeat Andrew Gilding (Suffolk) and Steve Western
(Colchester Town) 3-2 in an epic final with Brown
and Currivan peppering the treble twenty in the last
leg.
Winners
were Paul
Brown/ Alan Currivan. |

SUPERLEAGUE - NEW TEAMS
With the current
season coming to a close, the Essex Super leagues are
inviting new teams and individual players to join for
next season. Each League is set up to
promote the best players within Essex to attain their
maximum achievement. Essex has over recent years had
three players, from within the Superleague system;
represent their country in Internationals across
Europe.
The Ladies Superleague plays on a Tuesday
evening and knows that there are both players and
teams from around the County who both could and should
be playing within the Superleague system. If you are
one of those mentioned and would like some more
information then please contact Jenny Powell on 01206
564236.
The Youth Superleague plays on a Sunday evening
about once a month with all the matches at Witham Town
Football Club. Currently there are over 50 players,
both male and female, who are under the age of 18 and
play within the Youth Superleague. Anybody who will be
within this age group on the 1st of
September and would like to participate should contact
Roz Ambrose on 01255 223406.
The Mens Superleague consists of two divisions
